Normally the effect of music is mild for me, but I was listening to one of your files where there are two different, intermittently clashing music tracks, and I found that the clash of the tracks was contributing to my confusion. They were distracting my conscious mind so that the actual induction could slip more easily past to by subconscious and take me deeper. Very cool effect.

Mistress Elena wrote:Alright. I've put up a poll on this topic, but I want people to reply with posts too:

How can we improve the use of background music in our files? Do you have a specific type of background music which helps you trance more?

I like using it because it tunes out any buzzing or humming that comes from me testing experimental binaurals or just from the use of my recording materials.

The background music with OBEY WOMEN is wonderful, adds a lot to the entire presentation, and is my favorite file. OBEY WOMEN shoud go down as a masterpiece, or one might rightly say "MISTRESSPIECE".

100% agreed! ..but *Mistresspiece* you stole from my mind! I wrote it in a review for obey women I only didn't post, since each time I listen to it, I experience a new quality, so this is an ongoing process still.
Aha! Just another idea to bm:
Sewer's noise, all kinds: cutting cloth, knitting noises, tearing noise of cloth, the sewing machine in various tempi...
Also: computer keyboards clicking noises
and: winding up an alarm clock.
Now, yesterday I went crazily deep with ow, and I think in such a case it's hard to tell anything about background music at all.. ;)

Sorry drawnpulled. I understand your dilemma, I wrote a brief comment about OBEY WOMEN on WMM and wish it had been much better. At least I gave it a 5.

Background music can make it difficult to edit files, splice together mash-ups or create playlists.

Although music can sometimes help in trancing, I mostly find it distracting.

I'm completely neutral but with a caveat:

*because* Elena wants her files to be edited (and, indeed, we need to do so to add inductions in front of inductionless trances), it makes more sense to have no background music. As already mentioned, editing is much easier if there's no background.

Maybe it'd be a good idea to publicize some freely-available tracks that are suitable for trance, that way we can add them as a second audio track to our own completed sequences.

first i like the music with me it helps keep any noise out when using head phones as long as it stays in the back ground and isn't over powering. i also agree that it should be changed from time to time

The one thing with "background" music is: if it's something worthy you will want to concentrate on it exclusively. Otherwise you can forget that tune anyway. The other thing is, I never found hypnosessions of this genre so densely packed like Elenas; well maybe except those of...hahaha I won't tell :P
More and more I'm seeing the whole trancing as a learning process of a chain of details where every part needs to perfectly snap in, comparable with piano playing maybe. So one can also view it as a piece of music in its own right.

I personally really enjoy background whispers in particular, but also background music. It can really help in the process of confusion aswell as in terms of hidden/subtle background messages.

[edit] also the poll won't let me vote.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.
